Held at the local Warren Township Public Library, the STEMbots program is a weekly, Trident Robotics member hosted class with the goal of giving younger children the opportunity to build, design, and program machines using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits and accompanying in-depth education. The program has students assemble certain versions of the kits with different sets of sensors and motors, and learn how to use them to their advantage in the accompanying program, following certain predetermined paths, following paths through outside input, and accomplishing different tasks which are all small-scale versions of the real-world machines. Children are both learning and being well entertained in this hands-on class that shows them that the things they learn can have real world applications
Veteran students of the STEMbots program at WNPL this year had the opportunity to sign up for the Mars Mission program, a lego kit that has the student work on a very real-world theme, traveling to and living on Mars. Our students work as scientists and engineering and progress through missions that put their creative problem-solving skills to the test. The set comes with 30+ hours of lessons, challenge mats for post lesson testing concepts, and a large Lego set for building challenge mission obstacles.
